Excellent Results, Close to You!
A stroke (or cerebrovascular accident – CVA) can affect memory, speech/language function, swallowing, upper or lower extremity weakness or balance. These, in turn, can affect your ability to perform your activities of daily living (ADLs), which include bathing, dressing, cooking, mobility, walking, stair climbing, driving and work requirements.
Adams Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation offers a multidisciplinary approach to stroke rehab. This means we can offer speech, occupational and physical therapy services that work together to design your rehab program for optimal results. We coordinate your appointments to fit your scheduling needs.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy evaluates leg strength, balance, ambulation and functional mobility like transfers, getting in/out of bed and stair climbing. We perform a range of standardized gait and balance tests to determine your fall risk. We help patients choose the least restrictive assistive device (cane or walker) to address safe ambulation, with the ultimate goal of helping them develop as much mobility as possible.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy addresses upper body strength, fine motor skills, coordination, self-care activities and executive function tasks including the ability to follow medication schedules, manage finances, utilize adaptive equipment and develop cognition and safety awareness skills.
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy addresses memory, cognition, comprehension, speech and swallowing. We evaluate patients based on symptoms and strive to maximize independence, function and safety.
